World Of Warcraft Talents

Talent points are an important part of a player-character in World of Warcraft. Talent points are one the ways a player has to customize a character. Players ‘spend’ talent points in one of three categories (categories are also called talent trees). A talent point is awarded to the player at level 10, and one talent point is awarded per level after level 10.

Talents give a player character additional abilities or enhance existing abilities. This talent point system allows players to craft a character that suits their playing style. It also allows players to differentiate their character from other characters of the same class. (Class means the type of character; such as warrior, rogue, hunter, and so on.)

A ‘build’ is a collection of talent points spent in a certain pattern. There are three talent trees available to each class. So a build will consist of the abilities or enhancements the player has selected from the three talent trees available to the class. Players for each class have developed standard builds that they share with each other. Players may also use non-standard builds.

The three talent trees typically offer differing strengths. There is usually a talent tree that enhances offensive abilities, a talent tree that enhances defensive abilities, and a utility tree. Thus, by carefully spending their talent points, players can customize their characters to be offensive, defensive, utility, or as is most typical, a combination of two of the trees.

Below is a list of the classes in World of Warcraft, and the talent trees they can spend their talent points on.

Druid: Balance, Feral Combat, Restoration

Hunter: Beast Mastery, Marksmanship, Survival

Mage: Arcane, Frost, Fire

Paladin: Holy, Protection, Retribution

Priest: Shadow, Holy, Discipline

Rogue: Assassination, Combat, Subtlety

Shaman: Elemental, Enhancement, Restoration

Warlock: Affliction, Demonology, Destruction

Warrior:Fury, Arms, Protection

A couple of important facts about builds should be noted. First, builds are not set in stone. For a price in gold, a player can visit a trainer and ‘buy back’ all their talent points, allowing them to spend them again on a different build. Second, top-level guilds may require certain builds of their members. For example, some guilds will require that their Priests have damage builds, and their Paladins have healing builds.

    • How to transmogrify your clothie into High Inquisitor Whitemane

I don't like to assume that I know much in this world, but when it comes to World of Warcraft there is one thing that I am truly certain of: People really like High Inquisitor Whitemane. I guess it's hard for anyone to miss though. Since vanilla WoW, I've been reading comments about the High Inquisitor in almost every cathedral PUG I've ever run. "This is my favorite boss in the game," or "I love this fight," they say. When I flip through fan art galleries, it feels like I can't go through 10 pictures without one of them being of her. Plus, have you ever been to a BlizzCon? I've attended three, and every time, I've seen more than a few girls cosplaying as her. And who knows why? Maybe it's because we all love Scarlet Monastery. Maybe it's the Sephiroth-effect (white hair + villain = fans). Whatever it is, this relatively minor character commands a huge fan base among players. Because of that, I'm going to show you how to make your character look like her with transmogrification.Continue reading How to transmogrify your clothie into High Inquisitor WhitemaneFiled under: TransmogrificationHow to transmogrify your clothie into High Inquisitor Whitemane originally appeared on WoW Insider on Thu, 09 Feb 2012 20:00:00 EST. • The OverAchiever: Help update our list of evil achievements

Every Thursday, The Overachiever shows you how to work toward those sweet achievement points. This week, the abyss stares back. Almost two years ago, I wrote a series of articles for OverAchiever that turned out to be one of the most popular themes the column's ever visited: evil achievements. It turns out that a lot of folks care deeply about achievements that have been -- allow me to quote myself -- "milked from the angry teat of Satan himself." Now, it has to be said that all achievements are technically optional. No one is forcing you to do anything, why do you play this game anyway if you aren't having fun, yadda yadda ... all true. But I assume you're reading The OverAchiever because you really like achievements and you think they add something to the game. (Either that, or you're just reading because you're bored, but that's fine too.) Personally, I don't think players really mind difficult achievements or even achievements that they have to peck away at over an extended period of time. But there's a line between an achievement that is genuinely difficult on its own merits and one that makes you privately think the developers want you dead. So with that in mind, how would we reconstruct a list of evil achievements in 2012 during the Cataclysm era? You can find the original series here if you're interested in a trip down Memory Lane, although I'll give you a quick rundown on them past the cut: Evil Achievements: Spotlight on Justicar/Conqueror, The Immortal, and Accomplished Angler Evil Achievements: The 25 most evil achievements, #25-16 Evil Achievements: The 25 most evil achievements, #15-6 Evil Achievements: The 25 most evil achievements, #5-1 Continue reading The OverAchiever: Help update our list of evil achievementsThe OverAchiever: Help update our list of evil achievements originally appeared on WoW Insider on Thu, 09 Feb 2012 19:00:00 EST.
