World Of Warcraft Faq
59What is World of Warcraft?
World of Warcraft is a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing game. Millions of people around the world, using their computers, World of Warcraft software (from Blizzard Entertainment), and an internet connection play World of Warcraft together.
World of Warcraft is set in a fantasy setting. The overall world is called Azeroth. Various races (humans, orcs, gnomes, trolls, night elves, blood elves, dwarves, tauren, draenei, undead) live on three main continents. Players use magic and combat abilities to solve quests, battle against each other, and advance their characters in this world.
The World of Warcraft fantasy setting is fairly typical for this genre.
What gaming platforms does the game play on?
At this time, World of Warcraft is played on PC and Mac computers.
What are the elements of game play?
Overall World of Warcraft game play consists of: creating a character and advancing that character by levels. Each level gained grants the character additional abilities. Players participate in many activities in the game: exploration, combat against computer controlled monsters, combat against other players, developing trade skills (such as mining, enchanting, jewel crafting), completing quests, earning gold, and various social interactions with other players.
How does a player get started playing World of Warcraft?
A player will purchase the World of Warcraft PC or Mac software (typically a player will purchase the original World of Warcraft PC (or Mac) software and the expansion software The Burning Crusades). After the initial purchase, an ongoing monthly fee is charged to play the game.
The software packages must be installed on a computer capable of running the game. Several ‘patches’ (updates and fixes to the original software) must be installed. The patches download over the internet.
A World of Warcraft account must be created, with credit card or game card information entered. When all of the above is complete, a player may log into the game, create a character, and start playing.

What is the main story to the game?
There are two main factions, the Horde and the Alliance. In ancient times, the Horde and the Alliance battled each other. In the game, the two factions have an uneasy co-existence. Skirmishes break out constantly, but overall there are no large-scale wars. After choosing to play Alliance or Horde, players participate in deciding outcome of both small battles and fighting off common threats.
Many challenges face the Horde and the Alliance. At times, they even have to cooperate for the overall good of life on Azeroth. The game is rich in lore. Anyone wanting to know more can find the lore at Blizzard’s official site, in World of Warcraft novels, the Warcraft RTS games, and at fan sites.
What are social interactions like?
Within the same faction, players can chat, adventure together, share loot, and go to war against the opposing faction. Players will barter with each other for goods and services. A system of emotes (voice statements or voice and animations) offer another layer of interaction.
Expect both good and unpleasant interactions with other players. In this online world, people have a great degree of freedom in their behavior.
How do you win the game?
There is no ‘winner’ of this game. It’s an ongoing, persistent world; a player overall seeks to advance his/her character, to outfit the character with the best gear, and to collect as much gold as possible.

- How to transmogrify your clothie into High Inquisitor Whitemane
I don't like to assume that I know much in this world, but when it comes to World of Warcraft there is one thing that I am truly certain of: People really like High Inquisitor Whitemane. I guess it's hard for anyone to miss though. Since vanilla WoW, I've been reading comments about the High Inquisitor in almost every cathedral PUG I've ever run. "This is my favorite boss in the game," or "I love this fight," they say. When I flip through fan art galleries, it feels like I can't go through 10 pictures without one of them being of her. Plus, have you ever been to a BlizzCon? I've attended three, and every time, I've seen more than a few girls cosplaying as her. And who knows why? Maybe it's because we all love Scarlet Monastery. Maybe it's the Sephiroth-effect (white hair + villain = fans). Whatever it is, this relatively minor character commands a huge fan base among players. Because of that, I'm going to show you how to make your character look like her with transmogrification.Continue reading How to transmogrify your clothie into High Inquisitor WhitemaneFiled under: TransmogrificationHow to transmogrify your clothie into High Inquisitor Whitemane originally appeared on WoW Insider on Thu, 09 Feb 2012 20:00:00 EST. - The OverAchiever: Help update our list of evil achievements
Every Thursday, The Overachiever shows you how to work toward those sweet achievement points. This week, the abyss stares back. Almost two years ago, I wrote a series of articles for OverAchiever that turned out to be one of the most popular themes the column's ever visited: evil achievements. It turns out that a lot of folks care deeply about achievements that have been -- allow me to quote myself -- "milked from the angry teat of Satan himself." Now, it has to be said that all achievements are technically optional. No one is forcing you to do anything, why do you play this game anyway if you aren't having fun, yadda yadda ... all true. But I assume you're reading The OverAchiever because you really like achievements and you think they add something to the game. (Either that, or you're just reading because you're bored, but that's fine too.) Personally, I don't think players really mind difficult achievements or even achievements that they have to peck away at over an extended period of time. But there's a line between an achievement that is genuinely difficult on its own merits and one that makes you privately think the developers want you dead. So with that in mind, how would we reconstruct a list of evil achievements in 2012 during the Cataclysm era? You can find the original series here if you're interested in a trip down Memory Lane, although I'll give you a quick rundown on them past the cut: Evil Achievements: Spotlight on Justicar/Conqueror, The Immortal, and Accomplished Angler Evil Achievements: The 25 most evil achievements, #25-16 Evil Achievements: The 25 most evil achievements, #15-6 Evil Achievements: The 25 most evil achievements, #5-1 Continue reading The OverAchiever: Help update our list of evil achievementsThe OverAchiever: Help update our list of evil achievements originally appeared on WoW Insider on Thu, 09 Feb 2012 19:00:00 EST.
