World of Warcraft Burning Crusades

The PC (and Mac) game World of Warcraft the Burning Crusades is an expansion to the popular World of Warcraft game.

World of Warcraft is a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing game. Millions of people around the world, using their computers, World of Warcraft software (from Blizzard Entertainment), and an internet connection play World of Warcraft together.

World of Warcraft is set in a fantasy setting. The overall world is called Azeroth. Various races (humans, orcs, gnomes, trolls, night elves, blood elves, dwarves, tauren, draenei, undead) live on three main continents. Players use magic and combat abilities to solve quests, battle against each other, and advance their characters in this world.

The Burning Crusades expansion adds many things to the original game. New races, professions, quests, battle grounds, instances, and a new continent have been added with the expansion pack. The player level cap of 60 has been increased to 70 in the Burning Crusades.

The most important addition of the expansion pack is the new continent, called "Outland". Outland features a huge new land mass for players to explore and adventure in. Outland has new monsters, new factions, new cities, new quests, new gear, flying mounts, and an entirely new end game set of instances.

An instance is a specific area that players enter as a team to take on increased odds above normal questing. A player team will have an instance all to themselves. Instances have greater difficulty, and greater rewards. To get attuned (qualified to enter) for a top-tier Outland instance requires a combination of questing and reputation typical of the previous WOW top-tier instances.

The expanded player cap is also a vital part of the Burning Crusades expansion. Players at level 60 had no upward path (other than seeking better gear) before the expansion. With the new top level increased to 70, players are able to level again, as well as work on their gear and their reputation.

Flying mounts are a huge addition to the expansion. Once they reach level 70, players can purchase a mount that flies through the air. Previous mounts were land bound. The flying mounts only work in the Outland continent. Some areas in Outland are only accessible by flying mount.

The opening of Outland's new cities has all but left the previous cities desolate. With most players focusing on leveling and questing in Outland, old cities such as Ironforge and Orgrimmar have far few players in them now.

Quests abound in Outland. As with the old continents of Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms, a player can load up on quests in Outland. Quests rewards are better than ever, with gold and gear rewards that dwarf the rewards of the old continents.

The Burning Crusades expansion has extended the World of Warcraft game so much, it's almost like an entirely new game. But this brings up the question: how will Blizzard Entertainment top it?

    • Mists of Pandaria Beta: New Jaina Proudmoore Theramore event voices

We've known for a while that sometime during or before MoP there would be a Horde attack on Theramore, and that it would tie into the Jaina Proudmoore book coming out this summer. The map files for the Battle for Theramore are in the MoP beta right now, and the latest beta patch added even more juicy Theramore info -- this time, it's voice clips for Jaina and various other characters involved in the battle, courtesy of Wowhead News. The video and transcript is after the cut -- but beware of spoilers!Continue reading Mists of Pandaria Beta: New Jaina Proudmoore Theramore event voicesFiled under: Mists of PandariaMists of Pandaria Beta: New Jaina Proudmoore Theramore event voices originally appeared on WoW Insider on Thu, 31 May 2012 22:51:00 EST. • The OverAchiever: Which feats of strength can you still get?

Every Thursday, The Overachiever shows you how to work toward those sweet achievement points. This week, the impossible is fun and constructive. For a set of achievements that tend to be insanely difficult and reward no points, Feats of Strength are still a pretty compelling bunch. In a way, they could be described as a character's history, because they're usually about stuff that you can't do within the game anymore. Owning one of the classic game's original 100% mounts, old PvP mounts like the Vengeful Nether Drake, or 1,000 Stone Keeper's Shards are all signs that your character's been around the block a few times. However, there are still a few -- a very few! -- feats of strength that you can get right now. I visited this subject in 2009, and a lot's changed since then. Unsurprisingly, a lot of the feats described in that article are no longer attainable (bye-bye, Swift Zulian Tiger!), but a few more have been added. Fair warning: Most of the Feats of Strength that you can add to a character's collection are either RNG-dependent or grind-intensive to get, and a few featured in our 25 most evil achievements series.Continue reading The OverAchiever: Which feats of strength can you still get?Filed under: Achievements, The OverachieverThe OverAchiever: Which feats of strength can you still get? originally appeared on WoW Insider on Thu, 31 May 2012 20:30:00 EST. • WoW Moviewatch: WoW Night

WoW Night is a much older movie from Yumfries, featuring additional vocals from Sharm and Wick, not to mention an appearance from the ineffable Panser. Really, WoW Night is an anthemic salute to every player who looks forward to logging in and killing some internet dragons. This video first hit the tubes back in 2009. Nearly three years later, it's still awesome. Sure, the underlying tunes were crafted by a famous pop band, but the off-the-cuff chanting and parody singing also stand the test of time. It's a fun song, and it really puts me in the mood to log in and kill some stuff. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch!
